Child & Adolescent   Psychotherapy

WHAT IS CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHOTHERAPY

"Change occurs not through insight alone, but through meaningful  interactions within the the therapeutic relationship"

                                          -  Allen Schore

A deeper space for understanding and healing.

Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy is a specialised therapeutic process that supports children and young people in understanding and working through emotional, relational and behavioural difficulties.

It offers a developmentally attuned, clinically grounded space where a child or teenager can explore their inner world at a deeper level, engaging with unconscious processes, patterns of relating and early experiences.

"Every child and young person deserves a space where they feel truly seen, heard and understood - where healing can happen at their own pace."

HOW IT WORKS

Supporting your child at a deeper level

Psychotherapy helps young people make sense of experiences that may be stored unconsciously or expressed through behaviour - supporting the development of emotional regulation, resilience, self-awareness and healthier patterns of relating.

Child and adolescent psychotherapy is particularly well suited to children and adolescents who have lived through complex trauma, abuse, or significant disruptions in care, and who require a deeper, more specialised therapeutic approach.

We use creative and play based mediums to help children and young people express themselves and explore their inner world in a safe and developmentally appropriate way.

THE BENEFITS

How Psychotherapy helps your child

Emotional Regulation

Supports children in understanding and managing overwhelming feelings, by supporting the nervous system to re-learn safety. To allow co-regulation and connection and to support the child to move toward building mastery of their interior worlds.

Stronger Relationships

Supports healthier ways of relating to others by working through deeper emotional and relational patterns.

Trauma and Attachment Recovery

Gives children a developmentally appropriate and safe way to express and move through complex feelings and experiences stored in the body, heart and soul.  Supports children to move through past hurts and to heal and grow.

Self-Understanding

Encourages deep, meaningful change that supports the building of a solid sense of self.

Resilience

As the child/young person begins to move through past hurts,  resilience is built, not from the mind but from deep within.  Confidence, self esteem, agency, will and personal power all come back online equipping the child to be free to be themselves in the world.

Healing at the Root

Works with the root causes of distress, often stored beyond conscious awareness.
